ONES TO WATCH BY GARY WASSNER
PRIVATE POLICY
Haoran Li and Siying Qu, the founders of Private Policy, are doing something different. This is a very ambitious thing to say in the world of fashion these days, but they truly are. They’re not tied to anything traditional; yet their collections are thematic interpretations of periods in time, through the lens of AI and the evolution of today’s younger, bolder and more daring consumer. They definitely have a clear POV and they do not hesitate to express it.
They’ve been showing in NY for a number of years, and were finalists of the CFDA VOGUE Fashion Fund, among numerous other accolades, including FGI’s own Rising Stars nomination. The clothing is genderless, truly so, and timely. Each season focuses on one social topic.
This season their eyes are on 19th Century Americana viewed through the lens of the new frontiers, opened up by virtue of AI, and its unpredictability and unmitigated freedoms.
They speak through their silhouettes, appliques and metal hardware. Well-cut pieces, crafted using pioneering methods and textures, along with soft and supple fabrics adorn the runway. Everything tells a story and creates a living and breathing composition from beginning to end.
In addition, they foreshadowed their upcoming collaboration with Coca Cola – a limited edition capsule of apparel and accessories that will exemplify the creativity, originality and emotion of both brands.
This is a brand I personally love to watch. Their growth and progression are undeniable. They are a brand for the future, and with the advent of AI, the future is now.
