MINI ME

Mini-skirts move forward with a coquettish skater silhouette for next spring. Alex S. Yu showed a casual pull-on style, decorated with vertical chiffon ruffles. Bach Mai showed a flared mini in lipstick-red gazar, matched to a hybrid kimono-bomber jacket. Pieter Mulier at Alaïa showed a mini-circle skirt with a matching double-faced swing coat; the waistband of the skirt was slightly dropped to reveal a contrasting underlayer. LaQuan Smith’s version featured floaty baby-pink layers anchored with a wide channel-elastic waistband; a sheer blouse completed the diaphanous look. Libertine offered a lemon-yellow flounced wrap skirt in a wearable mid-thigh length; it was matched to a crop top and styled with a pool-blue Coco-esque jacket.

SPRING SWEATERS

Sweaters are not just for fall, and designers offer plenty of options for next spring, all made warm-weather-friendly with joyous color, playful intarsias, and airy stitchery. Rachel Comey showed a crewneck pullover that featured bright abstract shapes, echoing the print on a coordinating miniskirt. Henry Zankov of Zankov showed a charming cropped cardigan that was spangled with translucent paillettes. Monse presented a tightly knit sky-blue pullover emblazoned with an overscale tulip motif, while Michael Kors went classic with a luxe camel-colored crewneck matched to a raffia mini. Tommy Hilfiger used a mix of openwork crochet stitches to aerate a color-blocked short-sleeved sweater.

COAT NOTES

The lightweight spring coat, missing in action after seasons of jackets, comes back with a vengeance, bringing polish and panache to any ensemble. Michael Kors showed a fluid white trench with matching bermudas for a fresh take on the suit. Wes Gordon at Carolina Herrera used black-and-white houndstooth, a traditional springtime pattern, for a neatly tailored topper. Josh Hartig of Libertine used bejeweled coral and sea-creature embroideries to create a collectible-worthy piece. Tory Burch’s boxy layered look popped in persimmon red and featured slit sleeves. Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler used a graphic navy-and-white stripe for a natty tailored coat that was secured with a leather wrap belt.

SPARKLE & SHIMMER

Spring occasion dressing shimmers with all kinds of sparkling or metallic effects. Aknvas showed a swingy little set that was covered in sequins and trimmed in lace. Ulla Johnson spun golden yarn into a crochet dress that was both crafty and opulent. Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia of Monse elevated a simple pullover-and-pencil-skirt ensemble by overlaying both with clear sequins. Sergio Hudson used pavé sequins for a body-skimming halter column dress in an alluring shade of purple. Kate Barton went ultra-modern with a bewitching pink panel that glimmered with every movement, while Alex S. Yu showed a silver mirror-finish maxi-skirt with a matching silver bandeau that peeked out from under a sheer, frothy top.
